Sabertooth 2x32 is a dual channel motor driver capable of supplying 32 amps to two motors, with peak currents up to 64 amps per motor. It can be operated from radio control, analog, TTL serial or USB inputs. It uses regenerative drive and braking for efficient operation. A variety of operating modes including tank style mixing and automatic calibration allow most projects to work immediately out of the box.

In addition to the standard operating modes, Sabertooth 2x32 features additional signal inputs and power outputs, as well as enhanced configuration options.

User-defined operating modes allow for custom operation, such as switching between radio control and computer-driven inputs on the fly, emergency stops or front panel control overrides.

The auxiliary power outputs can be configured to allow the Sabertooth 2x32 to operate from a power supply without a parallel battery, or automatic control of electromagnetic brakes.

The state of the driver can be monitored in real time using the USB port in any operating mode, making debugging your project faster and easier. Sabertooth 2x32 is more flexible, robust and powerful than previous motor drivers, while also being easier to use.

It's okay if you do not have brakes

Posted by Connor on Nov 15th 2024

Spent weeks working with their support to fix brakes re-engaging. Their support is great, but after trying everything suggested, and even RMAing the unit, the problem persists. The Sabertooth cannot reliably handle wheelchair motor brakes. *Edit* Comment from Dimension Engineering - The number one variable affecting brakes operation with the 2x32 is power supply. The Sabertooth has a processor for onboard functions, so a power issue can affect processor functions, like brakes mode. Since Sabertooth is a regenerative driver, battery capacity must be sufficient to handle the load drawn, as well as to sink the regenerative current. Likewise, battery line components (switches, fuses, etc.) must be rated for the Sabertooth. In the case of the 2x32 at default current settings, components should be rated for at least 128A. Battery capacity for a 2x32 should be 35-55Ah for typical wheelchair motor applications, though some loads will require more. Battery age also affects operating capacity. Older batteries do not hold original factory capacity.

    Beyond what I expected

I attached the 2x32 to a home built rc lawnmower . It controlls the 12v motors that push the machine. Well satisfied

    Capable Driver

Worked out of the box for RC. Configurable with DEScribe software or DIP switches. Plan on using for automated mower and the dual inputs are perfect for the application.

    good drive but...

Posted by Craig on Feb 10th 2023

It has its limitations. It's really meant to be a power section only I think. It would be better if it had direction max speed and accel and decel as separate controls instead of a profile where it can only end up as full output. You can do all that with a separate front end. Solid drive power module though.
